Welcome to explore the history of the Ottoman Empire.

The Ottoman Empire, established by Osman I, saw significant expansion under Sultan Mehmed II, notably with the conquest of Constantinople (now Istanbul) in 1453. The empire flourished under Suleiman the Magnificent in the 16th century, extending from the Persian Gulf to Hungary and from Egypt to the Caucasus. However, setbacks like the defeat at the Battle of Vienna in 1683 signaled the empire's eventual decline, culminating in its dismantling by the Allies post World War I in 1918.
Below is a list of sultans who ruled the Ottoman Empire from 1299 to 1922. The empire's influence spanned from Hungary to Somalia and from Algeria to Iran, with capital cities including Bursa, Edirne, and ultimately Constantinople.
The Ottoman Empire's origins, shrouded in legend and historical interpretation, date back to around 1299 with Osman I Khan as its first ruler. Over six centuries, 36 sultans led the powerful dynasty until its dissolution after World War I.
The aftermath of the war saw the partitioning of the empire by victorious Allies and paved the way for the Turkish War of Independence and founding of modern-day Turkey.
